About Crawford Bookkeeping

Crawford Bookkeeping provides remote bookkeeping services for small businesses across Canada. The focus is simple, accurate books, handled consistently and without unnecessary complexity.

A real person doing the work

My name is David Crawford, and I personally handle all bookkeeping work.

When you work with Crawford Bookkeeping, your books are not passed between staff, outsourced, or rotated between team members. The same person works on your file every month, which keeps things consistent, reduces errors, and builds familiarity with how your business actually operates.

This approach works especially well for small businesses that value continuity, predictability, and clear communication.

Depth of experience

I have spent decades working with financial systems, operational reporting, and bookkeeping across a wide range of organizations.

My background includes managing and maintaining books for service based businesses, regulated environments, multi location operations, and organizations with strict reporting and accountability requirements.

I have worked with health and wellness practices, childcare organizations, nonprofit and membership based entities, political and community organizations, and many small businesses with day to day bookkeeping needs.

In addition to hands on bookkeeping, I have designed and implemented financial tracking and reporting systems, supported payroll and benefits administration, and worked closely with accountants, auditors, and external stakeholders.

Systems thinking, applied simply

Earlier in my career, much of my work focused on building and maintaining financial and operational systems for large and complex projects.

That experience shapes how I approach bookkeeping today. I care deeply about structure, traceability, and making sure the numbers tell a clear story to anyone who needs to rely on them.

For small businesses, this does not mean overengineering. It means setting things up properly, keeping them clean, and maintaining them steadily so problems do not accumulate quietly in the background.

I work directly inside your accounting software and follow best practices to keep your books organized, consistent, and ready for your accountant.

How I work

My approach to bookkeeping is steady and methodical.

Work is done on a predictable monthly schedule, with clear processes and minimal back and forth. Communication is handled primarily by email so that questions and answers are documented and easy to reference later.

This style works well for business owners who prefer clarity over urgency, and progress over constant interruptions.

Clear professional boundaries

To keep roles clear and avoid confusion, it is important to be explicit about scope.

Crawford Bookkeeping does not provide:

  • Tax filing
  • Tax advice
  • Accounting opinions or financial consulting

Your accountant uses the books I maintain to handle tax and advisory work.

Autism friendly and low pressure

This is an autism friendly service.

Communication is clear and predictable, processes are consistent, and initial contact is handled by email rather than phone calls. If you prefer written communication and a straightforward working relationship, this environment is designed to support that.
